This offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles signed running back Saquon Barkley after he became a free agent when the New York Giants elected to not re-sign him.
Two offseasons ago, the Giants, who have a valuation of $7.3 billion as per Forbes, chose to extend their then quarterback, Daniel Jones. They franchise-tagged Barkley and didn't sign him to a long-term deal. The intention was to get an extension done with Barkley the following offseason, but it never came to fruition.
The Eagles signed Barkley to a three-year deal worth $37.5 million in free agency this offseason and Barkley has been on a tear all year. He's rushed for over 2,000 yards this season and is within 100 yards of breaking Eric Dickerson's all-time rushing yards record in a single season.
