The F1 penalty points system is used to keep the driving standards in the sport in check. With this system, penalty points are given on the basis of the transgressions of the drivers.

Most famously, Kevin Magnussen became the first-ever driver this season to get banned for accruing 12 penalty points, after which drivers face a ban. He was forced to sit out of the 2024 F1 Azerbaijan GP.
