San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy's latest elbow injury has sparked immediate concerns, particularly given the timing of his contract situation. 49ers general manager John Lynch moved swiftly to calm the fanbase's nerves about their QB, who is playing in one of the NFL's lowest-paying contracts.
Lynch, the 49ers GM since 2017, has significant influence over the team's personnel decisions. His assessment of Purdy's condition carries extra weight, especially considering the QB's previous elbow surgery less than two years ago.
During Friday's appearance on Bay Area radio station KNBR, Lynch addressed the situation head-on. The Niners executive detailed how the medical team's evaluation led to the decision to sit Purdy for the season finale against Arizona.
"It's nothing more than when you hit your funny bone," Lynch said. via 49ers reporter Cam Inman. "When you get an NFL helmet in the wrong place it irritates the nerve. ... Brock is going to be fine. It's going to quiet down."
