Late San Diego Padres owner Peter Seidler's widow, Sheel Seidler, has filed a lawsuit against her brothers-in-law, Matthew and Robert, accusing them of serious misconduct. The suit, filed on Monday, alleges fiduciary breaches of trust, conversion, fraud, and egregious acts of self-dealing.
At the heart of the legal battle is control of the Padres. Peter Seidler's wife Sheel is contesting the decision by Matthew and Robert to transfer control of the team to their fourth brother, John, bypassing her in the process.
Amid this, the Padres broadcaster Darren Smith shared his thoughts on the situation. Smith addressed the entire situation as tragic because he didn't want to see the family breaking down like this on a public forum, especially as he worked with Peter Seidler.
