Sheffield United will face Cardiff City at Bramall Lane on Thursday in the third round of the 2024-25 FA Cup campaign. The home side have hit a rough patch in their league duties of late but remain in contention for automatic promotion. They will break from their top-flight activities this week as they turn their attention to cup action.
They were drawn against Gillingham in their cup opener last season and cruised to a 4-0 win over the League Two club, with William Osula scoring a first-half brace before Manchester City loanee James McAtee scored a double of his own in the second half.
Cardiff City currently find themselves in the drop zone in the English Championship and will hope they can find better luck elsewhere this week. They were, however, dumped out at this stage of the FA Cup last season after suffering a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday and will be desperate to avoid a repeat of the same here.
