Former F1 team principal Eddie Jordan has opined that axing Carlos Sainz and signing Lewis Hamilton was suicidal from Ferrari. The Italian team shocked the world of motorsports when they announced that the seven-time F1 world champion would be joining them as a full-time driver from the 2025 season.
The decision caught everyone by surprise as they had a stable driver's lineup with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, both of whom had been performing at a very high level over the past couple of years. However, the Maranello-based outfit could not pass on the opportunity to sign arguably the greatest driver in F1 history and pull off an iconic coup.
While appearing on the Formula for Success podcast, Jordan was left flabbergasted by the decision as he claimed that he asked Ferrari Chairman John Elkann about the move and the need to disrupt a settled pairing, saying:
