Former Arsenal and Chelsea star Ashley Cole
Former player Ashley Cole has explained why he left his boyhood club Arsenal to join their London rivals Chelsea during his playing days. The Englishman opened up about the issues he had with the Gunners' hierarchy.
Cole established himself at Arsenal, having come through the club's academy. The former left-back was a key player in their success under iconic manager Arsene Wenger and his infamous 'Invincibles' side.
He made 228 appearances for the Gunners between 1999 and 2006, winning two Premier Leagues and three FA Cups. Cole then made his switch to Chelsea, causing a massive uproar among fans that would almost tarnish his legacy at Arsenal.
He has now opened up about the controversial move. Speaking on That Peter Crouch Podcast, Cole said (via Metro):
