Former Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz's father, Carlos Sainz Sr., is a motorsport legend and a former world rally champion. He won the world rally championship twice in the 1990s. His son, a former Red Bull junior, joined the pinnacle of motorsport in 2015 when he was selected as the Toro Rosso driver alongside fellow rookie Max Verstappen.
Although Carlos Jr. gave a tough fight to his Dutch teammate in the same machinery for a season and a half, the latter was promoted to the main team. The Spanish driver stayed with the Faenza-based outfit until the latter stages of 2017 before leaving the Red Bull stable to join Renault.
After taking the French team to P4 alongside Nico Hulkenberg in 2018, he drove for McLaren for the next two years. Following sterling performances with the British team, Carlos Jr. was picked as the replacement for the departing Sebastian Vettel in the Ferrari, where he stayed until 2024. He will be joining Williams F1 next year.
