Last year, the San Francisco 49ers had the opportunity to end their 29-year wait for a Super Bowl win and exact revenge on the Kansas City Chiefs for their loss in Super Bowl 54. They scored first in overtime and needed only one stop to reach the promised land. Some on the 49ers' sideline felt confident but wide receiver Deebo Samuel knew better.
On Detriot Lions star Amon-Ra St. Brown's podcast, the veteran revealed he was among the handful who wasn't too confident about his team's chances of stopping Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense in overtime.
He said:
“I remember Jauan Jennings, we on the sideline, and they (KC) just got the ball back and they needed 3 to tie and go into overtime. And Jauan Jennings is there like 'yeah, we about to win the Super Bowl', and me, I’ve been there and played Pat Mahomes in 2019. We were up 10 with like 4 minutes left and lost by 10. I’ve seen it. So I’m like, 'Bro, just relax. Let our defense do what it’s gonna do.'"
